Chris Parker – Osteopath in Weston-super-Mare

Experienced Osteopath in Worle, Weston-super-Mare

Osteoapth and Clinic Owner

I’m Chris Parker, an Osteopath and co-owner of Pure Health Osteopath Clinic in Worle, Weston-super-Mare.

My own experience with a low back injury was what first led me towards Osteopathy. After receiving treatment that made a real difference to my recovery, I decided to change career and study Osteopathy at Swansea University.

During my training, I became fascinated by the range of musculoskeletal problems that Osteopaths can help with, and by how differently people can experience pain and injury. That interest has continued throughout my career and has shaped the way I approach treatment today.

My approach to Osteopathy

I take a hands-on, practical approach to Osteopathy, while recognising that there is more to treating pain than simply finding something that feels tight or restricted.

I have a particular interest in biomechanics and how the different parts of the body work together. I like to understand what is happening, how your symptoms are affecting you and what might be contributing to the problem, rather than simply focusing on where you feel the pain.

Treatment may include hands-on Osteopathic techniques, joint mobilisation, massage, exercise and practical advice, depending on what is appropriate for you.

I also have additional training in TECAR therapy and medical acupuncture, which can be incorporated into treatment where appropriate.

An interest in persistent and chronic pain

I have a particular interest in persistent and chronic pain and the science behind how pain works.

Pain can be complicated, and the amount of pain someone experiences does not always directly reflect the amount of tissue damage present. Understanding this can be particularly important for people who have been dealing with pain for a long time, especially when previous treatments have not provided the lasting improvement they had hoped for.

I aim to help patients understand their symptoms, feel more confident about movement and have a clearer idea of what they can do to manage their problem.

What I commonly help with

As an Osteopath in Weston-super-Mare, I see people with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, including:

  • Back pain and lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Sciatica and leg pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Headaches associated with neck problems
  • Persistent and chronic pain
  • Hip and knee problems
  • Tennis and golfer’s elbow
  • Pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain

If you’re unsure whether Osteopathy is suitable for your particular problem, get in touch and we can discuss it.

Qualifications and additional training

I studied Osteopathy at Swansea University and am registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

I have also completed additional training in:

  • Medical acupuncture through the British Medical Acupuncture Society at Southmead Hospital, Bristol
  • TECAR therapy

I continue to develop my knowledge through ongoing professional education, with particular interests in pain, biomechanics and musculoskeletal health.

Life outside the clinic

Away from the clinic, I enjoy surfing, hiking and spending time outdoors.

I’m also a dad to three boys, so family life keeps me pretty busy!

I have also spent many years restoring classic Volkswagen camper vans. It’s something I enjoy because, much like Osteopathy, I like figuring out how things work and getting my hands on them when something isn’t quite right.
